Learn how to use Japanese shibori folding and dip dyeing techniques to create beautiful designs with indigo. In this 4 hour workshop, Holly DeGroot will walk you through making an indigo vat, shibori techniques, and dyeing your fabrics. You'll leave the class with 2 yards of beautifully dyed indigo fabric to use as a tapestry wall hanging or sew into something you love.
Workshop cost includes:
- 2 yards of white Kona cotton
- Use of shared indigo vats during workshop
- Use of resists, clamps, rubber bands, clothespins, etc to create your designs
- Rubber gloves
- Shibori technique booklet
- 4 hours of workshop instruction
Workshop instruction by Holly DeGroot. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Please arrive to class promptly at 1:00pm. You may bring extra fabric or items to dye, but they must be prewashed. Please keep in mind that indigo dye is permanent, so please wear clothes to the workshop that you are okay getting dye on.
Skill Level: Beginner. No prior experience needed to take this workshop!
Workshops at Bijou Lovely require registration and prepayment in most cases. Workshops are non-refundable, but cancellations received 72 hours before the day of the class will be able to transfer their fees to another workshop. Cancellations received less than 72 hours prior to the day of the workshop and no-shows will forfeit their workshop fees. We cannot guarantee the same workshop will be available for rescheduling. Arriving 15 minutes late for a workshop may result in a forfeit of fees.
